Reason was 2 were gpt and one not – the one windows tried to boot to. Eventually destroying the system necessitating having to get download new win install as repair usb no use! This new install told me it could only use the non got disk. That got me researching again.
As I have older bios I had to swop sata cables and use diskpart to clean and format my real c: drive to reinstall with loss of all files etc. Seems that with upgrade from Vista to win 7 to 8 to 8. I spent 4 long days trying lots of idea’s before I found this. This worked great! Just built a new system, Windows Server was installed on GPT partition and at first Windows 10 would not installed. After searching and thinking about converting to MBR until I found this post.
In reply to wookiepaul’s post on January 18, With legacy bios mbr is the only option to install, if the bios has a hybrid mode both can be supported but the storage options need to be set first.
Using a dvd or usb to boot from, if it does not load in uefi, it will load in legacy mode. I found this out using rufus, setting up for both uefi and legacy, the os installed in MBR mode and not uefi, so part of the 3tb drive got an unusable portion that could not be formated or used. The only option was to force uefi with rufus and reinstall. Some motherboards use the delete or esc key to enter the bios. Legacy bios support 2tb and under and only mbr, gpt is supported for storage drives.
In reply to kjl’s post on January 28, Also, the GPT msg is bothering me as well. This site in other languages x.
